Company overview
Blazestack is advancing mission-critical software used by public safety agencies operating in high-trust, high-stakes environments. This role focuses on crafting exceptional user experiences and building scalable frontend architecture for an AWS-native platform. You'll lead the evolution of our shared component library, design intuitive interfaces for investigators in the field, and establish frontend best practices across multiple React/TypeScript applications. The project emphasizes real-world impact with trusted software that frontline professionals rely on daily, built with modern component-driven architecture, comprehensive testing, and accessibility-first design. You will shape the UI/UX strategy, drive component library adoption, and collaborate in a remote-first, fast-moving team to deliver polished, intuitive experiences for public safety professionals.

What you'll own

  • Lead component library development: Architect, build, and maintain our shared UI component library used across our applications. Create reusable, well-documented components that enhance productivity and consistency.
  • Own the frontend experience end-to-end: Design and implement responsive, accessible UI flows with React/TypeScript and Material UI (MUI). Transform complex investigation workflows into intuitive interfaces that investigators trust in high-pressure situations.
  • Establish frontend excellence: Implement Storybook for component documentation and visual testing, write comprehensive unit and integration tests, and define best practices for component composition, state management, and performance optimization.
  • Drive UX innovation: Collaborate with product leadership to translate user needs into mockups, prototypes, and production-ready interfaces using Figma. Conduct usability reviews and iterate based on real-world feedback from public safety teams.
  • Optimize and scale: Improve build performance, bundle sizes, and runtime efficiency across multiple frontends. Ensure consistent TypeScript configurations, shared tooling, and seamless integration patterns.
  • Champion accessibility and responsive design: Ensure WCAG compliance, keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and mobile-responsive layouts that work reliably in field conditions.

Description

We're seeking a senior frontend engineer with deep expertise in modern UI development. You should have demonstrable experience shipping production-grade React applications with component libraries, fluency with TypeScript, Material UI (MUI), and component-driven development, and a track record of building reusable design systems. We're looking for engineers at a Senior (L5) to Staff (L6) level equivalent to FAANG standards—candidates with 5-8+ years of frontend experience who have operated at scale, led component architecture decisions, and mentored other engineers. You'll architect shared component libraries with Storybook, write comprehensive tests (Jest, React Testing Library), and create mockups or collaborate closely with the product team to refine UX. Practice test-driven development, understand CSS-in-JS patterns, and craft interfaces that feel intuitive and accessible. A passion for UX, visual polish, and delivering robust frontend architecture in high-stakes settings is essential. You'll thrive in a fast-moving, remote-first environment and value shipping maintainable, well-tested components that scale across multiple applications.

Core competencies:

  • Expert-level React, TypeScript, and modern frontend tooling (Vite, ESBuild)
  • Proven experience building and maintaining shared component libraries
  • Strong Storybook implementation and component documentation skills
  • Comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, visual regression)
  • Material UI (MUI) customization and theming expertise
  • Responsive design, accessibility (WCAG), and cross-browser compatibility
  • Performance optimization and bundle size management
  • Comfortable working with design tools (Figma, Sketch) to translate mockups into production code
  • A mindset geared toward user-centered design, with ability to balance rapid iteration with long-term maintainability and component reusability

Desirable but not required

Experience with AWS Amplify and Cognito authentication flows, familiarity with Go-based APIs for effective frontend/backend collaboration, understanding of data modeling for complex investigations, and prior work in public-safety or similar high-trust domains. Experience with CI/CD pipelines for frontend deployments, CloudFront optimization, and S3-based hosting. Prior FAANG or high-growth startup experience is highly valued.
